Added: We have also now got a Flickr map so we can see visually where everyone is from, please add yours?

    G'day,

I'm AdamG, on account of that there was already another Adam in another forum so I have stuck with it.

I live in Darwin at the Top End of Down Under. Do I have to explain that? Australia is sometimes known by our Pommie cousins as "Down Under", and the bit I live in is about dead centre on the north coast of Oz, and known in Oz as the "Top End".

What do I do - well, I help small business owners and manager whose sales are costing them profits. Most small businesses are started by someone who is go=od at what they do, whether it be a mechanic or IT specialist. Their problem is that is becoming good at what they do they have not had the time to learn how to manage a business,, understand their financial statements or focus on building a business.

Consequently they leak profits, because they don't know how to identify profit leaks, or how to stop them if they can find them. That's my job.

My blogging goals - I want to become less dependent on one-on-one consulting locally, and leverage my knowledge and 18 years experience in doing this into products saleable to wider markets.

On-line sales are the way to do this but I have to build a list and demonstrate knowledge and expertise. Blogging, and writing articles is how I am doing this.It is a very slow process, possibly as my target market is not likely to be a natural on-line person, so I have to drive them there.

You can find my current blog here http://www.profitsleakdetective.com/blog/

I'm not sure that it is really a blog. I try to write a brief conversational piece a directed at a key person in my target market.

    Adam,

There are lots of people starting companies that might be very interested in how to start off right, operationally. You might like to look at startupping.com and GoBig.com

I'm a prime candidate for finding out how to do things right from the beginning.

    Hi from a Web-Wahm

Hello, my turn for an intro...

    Who you are : Adele

Where you live : Wakefield, UK

Your day-job : I guess I'm a webmaster, but just for myself. I work at home 'online', building my sites with SBI and being a mum in between...or should that be the other way round LOL

Your blogging goals : To get to grips with it properly - I toy with it, and I'm supposed to be able to blog in 'just 15 mins a day'...but it doesn't work like that for me and it seems to be fairly intensive - I may as well just make pages for my sites from the content.

To me, it seems the distinctions are blurring somewhat between websites and blogs, but I think 'blog stuff' gets out there more than content pages, I dunno...I'm here to find out what it's all really about.

Your existing blogs (if any) : Not pure blogs, but I 'blog' within my websites, the main one being on my craft site
    - here I started to blog about general stuff but then realised I might as well make pages, so now I'm trying to stick to 'time sensitive' stuff.

I have 2 other sites lagging behind development-wise, one which lends itself very well to blogging rather than pure content (http://www.great-kids-tv.com) and the other which is about working from home - working on my newsletter 'No Cheese Please' but I'm wondering if this should be blog-based instead.

Single mum to 2 little girls, growing a chip on my shoulder though because of the comments I get about my so-called 'job' ... I treat my websites as a proper job (the taxman sure agrees with me!) and I should be damned proud of what I do, but I'm increasingly embarrassed to admit what I do

    Adele

  9. Hi Adele, good to have you on board

Don't be hard on yourself about "just 15 mins" - while some people can blog in 15 minutes a day (perhaps someone as organised as Darren), but I find I am way too anal to be able to knock out 15 minute posts let alone answer all my comments in 15 minutes. When I am really rocking I can turn out hundreds and thousands of words very quickly but then comes the editing ... I have stuff lying around still unpublished because I could never get it "just right"

I appreciate what you are saying about the "real job" thing. It's a little easier for me as I tell people I am a consultant which has the instant eye-glaze effect so no further questions are usually forthcoming

You might try telling people you are a writer if people don't like the webmaster/etc thing - you are!
