What styles of music help you write?

I personally listen to electronic ambient, techno, downtempo, hip-hop, trip-hop, or jazz when I write.

I've heard some of his stuff. I liked what I heard. Truthfully I think my first time hearing him was a progressive house remix of Mad World (From Donnie Darko). Then I heard the original, which is obviously better. I should go listen to more of his music.

it is hard for me to do the classic rock thing while writing.. I feel prone to start an air guitar solo

Music that doesn't intrude.

Hence maybe instrumental. Piano or violin. Also old favourites whose word I remember too well to care for anymore.

Music is a big help (thought I should add).
