I personally listen to electronic ambient, techno, downtempo, hip-hop, trip-hop, or jazz when I write.
What about all of you?

I never knew it was a cover
On another note, I just noticed that my thread is called "Why styles of music help you write" but it's supposed to be "What styles of music help you write."

radio will do for me but if im in the mood, i'd go for house tracks like kaskade and moony
We can fix that.
Music to court the writing muse:
For writing my own blog stuff - the blues.
For writing business blog stuff - classic rock ('70s-'80s) works best for me.
For planning what I'm going to write next week - classical or traditional folk.
For copy-editing - back to some hard-driving classic rock.
For writing letters to friends - the genre depends on who I'm writing to, and why!

Music that doesn't intrude.
Hence maybe instrumental. Piano or violin. Also old favourites whose word I remember too well to care for anymore.
Music is a big help (thought I should add).
