I really like the Worpress Auto-Update plugin. Worked like a breeze on my www.cupofchai.net blog.
Plugin: Direct Download

I haven't tried the auto update plugin. I may need to do that.

The Easy WP Update script shell script will update loads of WordPress blogs all at the same time.
The only downer, you need access to a *nix command line in order to run it.
i am running the automatic upgrade one right now- i will let you know how it goes!
I tried the automatic one, and had problems. Talked with the script owner and he didn't have an answer to it. (let me clarify, that i'm not talking about the one linked above...not sure what the link is of the one i tried).
Right now, I'm manually upgrading my SEO Scoop blog because suddenly this morning the admin isn't functioning properly. (hanging for like 10 minutes between each action). Hopefully, the upgrade will go smoothly. I *HATE* upgrading. Really, really hate it. But in this case, I'm hoping it will solve this weird problem.

Manual update is better than automated, if something goes wrong then you need to work more on it.
In this matter of Wordpress Update manual update is the best choice.
I upgraded manually as well but seem to be having a problem with updating the version info. I'm not sure if that's something I did wrong or what.
I'm just so hesitant to give any program or script control over such a large portion of my blog. I realize it's probably safe and stuff but I'd like to at least know what I did if something blows up.
I've embarked on a Blogging Experiment. Feel free to observe or play along.
Well, the manual process is not going well for me. The original problem still exists, and now my theme is all messed up. bah.
