    Keyword Usage

I read somewhere that the keywords one uses for one's site should not be static. My question is if you have a topical site that deals with current issues and/trends should you update or add to the keywords for your site depending on your posting or will the tags for that post be enough for the search engines and visitors to find that post. For example. If you have a celebrity post and a certain celebrity becomes talked about a lot in a given period and you decide to write about him/her should you then add that celebrity name, etc., to your keyword list or should your tags be sufficient? Are keywords for your site static? Or should you always be revising, researching them?

    Interesting question...
It is my understanding that keywords for each post/page are more important than overall keywords for the blog as a whole, because each individual page serves as an entry point. Keywords in meta tags are of limited value in Google, which stopped paying attention to them because of the prevalence of keyword stuffing, although other search engines do still use them to some extent. It wouldn't seem to make much sense to invest a lot of time in tweaking those, then. And if your post is tightly focussed on topic, and you use natural language, search engines are pretty good (and getting better) at figuring out what the post is about. Especially with the rise of semantic search, the whole keyword business seems to be less and less relevant - outside of bloggers trying to attract a specific type of contextual ads for their site. IMHO. Others may have different takes on this.

Thanx. That makes a lot of sense. When i look up keywords used to access my post in Google Analytics I see keywords that are in the tag and not necessarily in the meta tag for the site. On the other hand, I have noticed that very topical sites do also add keywords to their meta tag when a subject becomes hot. I guess it's added insurance that someone will find that new post.

  4. I was going to suggest to add Google Analytics to your blog, you can help manage and track keywords.
    Too late to the punch

  5. I wouldn't change keywords in your posts because that would mess up your rankings. If it's a celebrity and they're really hot right now or top news, then write a new post about him/her and use the appropriate tags.

according to me keywords are not important. I think we should write for humans, not machines.

So you are not using keywords when looking for something in google? ... what a comment...

Different posts needs different keywords... you don't need to change keywords especially for older and indexed posts... you will only have problem with search engines...
