    I'm selling The Giving Hands

    Yup, you read that right. I have kind of made up my mind to sell my charity-and-environment blog, The Giving Hands. I love the blog very much, I have spent many hours developing it, and I have recently tweaked it to perfection, thinking that I would have time to start anew with it.

    But truth be told, I find it difficult to maintain a blogging momentum on the blog because I always seem to have "other more important things" to do. Perhaps I shouldn't have started it in the first place

    The Giving Hands stats, in case you're interested:
    I do not know how much it is worth, or how much I can sell it for because I've never done this before. Please send me a PM if you have any advice for me, or if you'd like to buy it. I appreciate it..

    How many subscribers do you have Pelf? What is the age of your site?

    I would imagine you could probably get at least $500 - $1k for your blog based on recent sellings of other blogs. Here are some listing of blogs that recently sold:

    http://www.sitepoint.com/marketplace/auction/15498 (could have gone for much more)
    http://www.sitepoint.com/marketplace/auction/16088
    http://www.sitepoint.com/marketplace/auction/14088
    http://www.sitepoint.com/marketplace/auction/16214

    You will notice a good mix of some that did well and others that didn't. A lot comes down to how you write your sales copy. You really have to sell it to the readers in order to get the most out of it.

    Sara: Thanks for the links to check out the blogs that were sold recently. Would you recommend me to get into sitepoint to sell my blog?

    The Feedburner chicklet says that I have 54 subscribers at the moment.
    Links from Google: 190
    Links from Yahoo: 13,500 (am I doing this right?)

    If you share how much visits and page views you have, this will count too to find a price and interested buyers.

    3,730 page loads and 2,210 unique visitors in Oct 2007;
    1,544 page loads and 837 unique visitors in Sept 2007;
    1,044 page loads and 447 unique visitors in Aug 2007;
    4,651 page loads and 1,966 unique visitors in July 2007 (probably due to Blogathon)

    I don't say this because I am a moderator there, but Sitepoint is really good for buying and selling sites. You will have to pay $20 for a listing, but the auction system they created is pretty great and works well for this type of thing. If I were you, I would study the briefs of some of the blogs that have sold and start creating your own brief. Include as many stats as you can and then you need to present it to them in a way of how they can make money from a site.

    I recommend you reading this post by Matt Jones who recently sold his blog on SitePoint for 6k

    6 Lessons From a $6000 Blog Sale

    His advice and tips are spot on. Also, a good reason to list your site at SitePoint is there are people there who are willing and looking to spend money. I would recommend not setting a Buy it Now price (BIN) and have the bidding start at $200 or $250.

    Two factors will determine the final value of your blog:

    1) The revenue it generates
    2) And its niche

    Now obviously, Matt's blog had a good niche (in terms of making money) and it was making him good money. That's why he managed to sell his blog for 6K.

    So you have to consider two things: 1) Does your blog make any money, and 2) does it have a potential to make the new owner money?

    I seriously doubt it does. Pelf, you are a good hearted person, and you have a passion for saving turtles and environment, but I am not sure if you can find a buyer who is as passionate as you are, and who is willing to write on a subject that doesn't pay?

    I wish you good luck nonetheless. and it's sad to hear that you won't be writing at TGH anymore.

    Sara: Thanks for the advice. Now I know that there's a lot to learn about t0o if one wanted to sell a blog (and that research isn't something that only a buyer does)!

    Mohsin: I don't want to sell TGH either, but I thought it would be better to sell it than letting it go to waste. But of course, if I could find a couple of committed bloggers to blog on TGH every other day, I'm sure the blog would be better too.

    But everybody is way too busy managing their own blogsss. And I can't pay my fellow bloggers for writing for TGH. That was why I kind of decided to sell TGH
